Musician, show man, singer and event organiser Jaan Kirss was the drummer of the legendary ansable Apelsin back in 1976-1983. After the succesful traveling through the countries of the Soviet Union with Aplesin and also Vitamiin and Laine and as the drummer in the Viru Varietee, Jaan became a father for a daughter and a son.
While the little children were growing up, Jaan became a well known host and entertainer, who had drum sticks in one hand and a small acordion in the other – one who would always get the crowd singing no matter what the event.
The three years in Sevastopol navy gave him excellent russian vocabulary, the trips to Finland with his band gave the perfect finnish language which was the right skill to entertain the northen neighbors. Jaan waited as the interest in drums grew naturally in his children. After that it was inevitable – the family drumshow was born!
Helena Victoria Kirss was obviously infected with drums while growing up in a family of drummers. After graduating Tallinns Music School with classical guitar, she started learing drums under her father’s watch. The nessecery coordination and playing skills was acquired fast and some boys who played heavy metal wanted her as their drummer. Safe to say: rock music and Helena Victora go hand in hand.
And so came the first acknowledgments within the first two years: at age 16 she was titled the best drummer in the school bands competition and also best drummer in the national competition “Noortebänd 2003”, and also received the best band title. At the same time the family drum show was put together. Helena Victoria also plays the guitar and sings in the doings of Kirss Garden events. All the years being on stage, doing different musical projects, have brought her much confidence also in other musical genres. She does solo performances, improvises on percussion with a DJ and together with recognized artist from estonia and abroad. See more: www.helenavictoriamusician.com
Ian Mikael Kirss started playing drums at the age of 10, and the first steps were guided by his father. Ian was facinated by the band named Slipknot and wanted to learn to play everything they had to offer. Also, tap dance lessons with Aleksandr Ivaskevitš were beneficial to drumming technique – the double bass drum pedal gets a run for its money even today!
In 2004, at age 14, he won the Paiste drumming competition and since then Ian Mikael has been an official Paiste artist. Ians drumming has been heard in bands like Cookies, Mood Mess and House Of Games. The latter was also a warm-up band for the U.S. rock legends W.A.S.P in their United Kingdom tour in 2007.
Today, Ian is busy giving private lessons for the drum set and djembe. See more: www.trummikoolitus.ee
